Our aim is to provide high quality, Specialist Dental Care, in a relaxed, professional environment, under the care of highly skilled Dental Professionals.
While we would always aim to help you keep your own teeth wherever possible, dental implants are fast becoming the treatment of choice as the most natural alternative for replacement in the event of tooth loss.
A dental implant is a small titanium insert that serves as an artificial tooth root, placed into the bone to provide a sturdy foundation for specially crafted teeth that look and feel completely natural. This procedure involves minor surgery, which most patients find easy to manage.
Once the implant is in place, you can enjoy the benefits of a secure and natural-looking smile that enhances both your appearance and confidence.
TYPES OF IMPLANTS
The process begins with the insertion of a small titanium screw into the jawbone, acting as an artificial tooth root. This screw is carefully placed in the bone where the tooth is missing.
Over the next few months, the jawbone undergoes a healing process called osseointegration, during which it fuses with the titanium screw, creating a strong and stable foundation. During this period, a temporary denture can be worn to fill the gap left by the missing tooth.
Once the implant has fully integrated with the bone, a custom-made crown, bridge, or removable denture is attached to the implant. This final restoration is designed to match the appearance and function of natural teeth, ensuring a comfortable and seamless fit within your smile.
The entire dental implant process typically takes between three to six months, depending on individual healing times.

REQUEST A CONSULTATIONWhile we would always aim to help you keep your own teeth wherever possible, dental implants are fast becoming the treatment of choice as the most natural alternative for replacement in the event of tooth loss. A dental implant involves the placement of a small titanium insert (artificial tooth root) into the bone; specially crafted teeth that both look and feel completely natural can then be attached to this insert.
Dental implants involve some minor surgery but this can be easily managed by the majority of patients. Dental implants are completely fixed and secure, restore the natural function of your teeth and do not require the neighbouring teeth to be filed down. They offer a long-term solution that does wonders in terms of your ability to eat, speak and feel confident with your smile.
No, only if a single tooth is being replaced. Usually six implants in the lower jaw will support 10-12 teeth. In the upper jaw, eight implants will support the same amount of teeth. Where a few teeth are missing, two or three implants are enough.
There are very few cases where implants are not suitable. Some patients may not have enough bone to place the implants, though even this can be rectified. Dental implants are ideal for anyone missing one or more teeth due to injury, disease or decay. Age is definitely not a factor, although it is inadvisable for implants to be used in younger patients who are still growing. Refine Specialist Dental Care can provide a full consultation and evaluation of your medical and dental history to determine whether implants are appropriate for you.
The placement of implants has very high success rates. Ongoing research reports a 95% survival rate for individual implants and higher rates for implant-supported bridges.
The whole process may take just a few weeks or, for complex dental reconstructions, up to 18 months. The actual procedure will depend on factors, such as your dental health, the number of teeth involved and which teeth are being replaced. These factors will also determine the total number of visits throughout the treatment period.
This is a surgical procedure and you would be advised to expect a little discomfort for a few days after the surgery. Generally, this is easily managed with everyday painkillers. You will have some stitches, which are usually dissolvable. Most patients say they had less pain than they expected.
Compared to dentures, implants are easy to look after.
Implant-retained replacement teeth are just like your natural teeth. They should be cared for and checked regularly.
Implants are susceptible to periodontal (gum) disease, just like your natural teeth.
You will need to see the hygienist regularly, and maintain your own oral hygiene to a high standard, again just like your natural teeth.
